Just to claim that my interests aren't made up just of bits and pieces of the print and visual media and some science-related topics, I've decided to talk a little about my Labour Day long weekend. It was suggested to me by my brother that we go home together, and once there our parents suggested a quick canoeing excursion on a local river on Sunday afternoon. At least in part because it would be something different for me and something that I haven't done in quite a while, I eventually agreed.
For all I know, we "cheated" just a little bit by dropping a car off down the river where we planned to stop and then heading back to our launching point in a little village near where we live. A floating dock eased getting the canoes into the water and getting into them, and then we were off, with my parents in one canoe and my brother, who has more recent experience canoeing than I do, steering from the back of another. I was trying to watch out for things ahead and paddling harder whenever I was told to. However, there was just enough turbulence spaced along the river (not that low even this late in this rainy summer, except in the occasional tricky patch) to make it a little more exciting, and we made better time than we expected. It was, all in all, an entertaining if vigourous afternoon... although I do find myself thinking about how I got back to my place on Monday afternoon and spent the evening watching a video and poking around on my computer.
