One Week Late... Fifty-One Weeks Early?

Before I made the trek back to the Anime North convention this year I repeated a step I’d tried years before and dropped in on the Uniqlo store in my city’s shopping mall. This time, though, I couldn’t find the “45th anniversary Gundam T-shirts” I’d somehow picked up on Uniqlo selling this year, and in the end I donned the very shirt I’d worn the first time I visited the convention.
This weekend a few errands of sorts had me decide to go back to the mall. (What’s going to happen to it with its last department store set to close tomorrow seems a slight question.) When I was there, I supposed I could at least look in Uniqlo again. The T-shirts I’d seen before hadn’t been moved from where they’d been to sell new product. Now, however, I thought to push a little further into the store, and this time I did spot the Gundam shirts.
If one thing pushed into my mind then to displace self-criticism, it was to think that for all of my uncertain “what might happen between leaving the convention and when it’s supposed to show up next year?” thoughts, there just might yet be something to “looking ahead in hope.” I picked out a shirt with a lineup of Mobile Suits on the back (if one weighted to the first half of the forty-five years), and then, remembering the shirt I already had was white too, I picked out a black one just featuring the original series. I also contemplated the Witch from Mercury shirt, which had people as well as mecha on it, but in the end not wanting to be too extravagant with my purchases today outweighed confronting still being in the days when other fans keep repeating reasons why they wound up finding fault with the recent series.
