Around an Unusual Place

After an inauspicious Friday the 13th, we can at least mention a silly unofficial celebration and mention today being Pi Day. Its connection to mathematics makes it a bit more appealing to me than I’ve admitted “May the Fourth” feels. However, it was still a bit of a surprise to look in a grocery store flyer and see it mention the day while advertising pies. I have to acknowledge the tension between “surely it’s good that this thing I take interest in can be invoked among a wider audience” and “was I using its obscurity as an easy way to claim some fragment of individuality?” Beyond that, the closest thing to “pies” I could think of as ready to hand were some lemon meringue pie-flavoured puddings; then, though, I remembered I had a frozen meat pie and decided to cook it for dinner today.
