More Clone Wars, But...

It was from someone I don't follow for "Star Wars news" (and, I have to admit, most of whose occasionally offered opinions on the subject I disagree with) that I first saw a report new episodes of The Clone Wars would be made. I sought confirmation from the "Prequel Appreciation Society" site (which I don't check the way I used to now that it doesn't allow comments). It was a surprise to be sure, and yet, as repellant the thought is of trying to put down the possibile genuine excitement of anyone else, I have to admit that for me there's been water under the bridge since a "final batch" of episodes were made available on Netflix and I signed up for that service to watch them.
It's not just detachment from the Star Wars stuff made "post-sale" that's got in the way of watching even some of the existing Clone Wars episodes again. With the product pipeline of animation from Japan still managing to gush (even if there are seasons I stand back from the spray and fish in the ponds left from previous months, years, or decades), whatever space Clone Wars had claimed did fill up fast. I did manage to watch the first few episodes of "Rebels," the animated series that replaced it in what had seemed the first post-sale rush away from "the prequel era," when they were shown on ABC. Unfortunately, I have to admit the computer animation looked cheaper (the "shininess" of some of it had me flashing back to the earliest computer-animated TV series of the 1990s), everyone's dialogue was snappy to the point of seeming overbearing (an anticipation of the one time I watched The Force Awakens, perhaps), and the series did seem to be trying to have it both ways in being set when it could use "original designs" but still include a Jedi. From what I did hear, Rebels did get around to presenting fates for several characters developed in Clone Wars; that makes any potential wrap-up in these upcoming episodes seem a bit less vital to me.
Right around when I saw this news, though, I did see some reports that there's a final season set for Voltron: Legendary Defender on Netflix, the series I've been watching as a thin shield against "you won't watch anything animated except anime." I understand the new Clone Wars episodes are to be used to promote Disney's upcoming private-label streaming series, and I admit there's the possibility a "free trial period" long enough to watch them provides an outside chance I might try and see them. At the same time, while the possibility I said might make Solo: A Star Wars Story appeal to me a bit more did seem to come to pass, I still didn't find the resolution to see that film at the movies.
