From Somewhere in the North Atlantic
May. 24th, 2009 02:58 pmAs it turned out, I did get some online connection time (via satellite, which seems to work pretty well) on the cruise I had mentioned, but the amount of time I gritted my teeth and paid for seemed to work out to ten minutes per day. This seemed to put rigid constraints on how many sites I could visit per day, and while of course I could read my friends list and compose something offline I found myself thinking "Talk is cheap; seeing is believing." Eventually, I did manage to upload some pictures I had prepared for emailing, and I can at least say that I've been to New York.
Otherwise, it's been strangely liberating in a sense to not only not worry about work, but not worry about what to do after work, the shelf of DVDs still to be watched and the idle temptation to look at one more site. Getting offshore in Halifax (where it rained, but we did get uphill to the Citadel), Saint Pierre and Miquelon (where the fog was close), and St. John's (where it was finally sunny, and I spotted an iceberg out at sea from Signal Hill) was good, and the past four days of the crossing have passed agreeably enough. Tomorrow, we reach Belfast, and the "shore excursions" begin once again.
