Well, Somebody's Spoken
Mar. 24th, 2009 07:33 pmI suppose I've been kind of amused by the recent news that "Colbert" won as a write-in vote for the name of the observation cupola to be added to the space station, but one thing that doesn't always seem brought up in the reports is that the officially suggested name that got the next highest number of votes, "Serenity," could be seen as a reference to the show "Firefly." Perhaps I'm willing to take note of there being more "Colbert Report" fans than "Firefly" fans out there (and I also happened to notice some Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans suggesting writing in "Satellite of Love")... although that does bring to mind my nagging awareness that I tuned in to the first episode of "Firefly" broadcast, thought "Huh, outer space Western," and didn't watch any more of the show. (It may have been a factor that helped drive me to take an interest in the new "Battlestar Galactica.")
As well, I'm also conscious of the old saying that those who don't vote don't deserve to complain about the results, as I couldn't decide on something to vote for myself. I suppose I'm sufficiently engaged in the process already that I don't need to join in things like this, but I'm also bad at getting around to signing up for "send your name into space on this CD/chip!" things too.
