The Biggest Surprise of All
Sep. 20th, 2013 08:08 pmWatching all the Star Wars movies again was something I was looking forward to, but there did seem gradations of anticipation, and I suppose I wondered in turn about them. There might be "defiance" or even "shock value" in being interested in The Phantom Menace, the breadth of the negativity finally seeming sort of ridiculous to me, and with Revenge of the Sith there's perhaps something to the final rush of the events set up and also the certainty the negativity there is a simple matter of some no longer being able to interpet the movies through anything but hostility. With Attack of the Clones, though, I did wonder if I was somehow "losing it in the middle," if there wasn't anything I could connect to...
Once I started watching the movie, though, I seemed quite adequately caught up in it. If, as I'd thought, I wasn't connecting to anything specific, perhaps that just meant I was taking in the complete experience and not letting anything pry that apart. That in itself seemed quite adequate to realise. It was only a bit later that I wondered about Padme's new role for that movie not having her appear in the Senate itself (even if I know there was a scene filmed that didn't make it into the movie) and if this could be meant to suggest we should be detached ourselves from what it represents; of course, her being excluded from it could also be part of the problem that sets up what's to come.
