A Peculiar Action Figures Sighting
Feb. 28th, 2007 05:54 pmAs if to make up for never having had a Darth Vader action figure to pit against the good guys as a child, I bought quite a few Revenge of the Sith figures around when the movie came out. They've sat unopened in a closet ever since for reasons I can't quite articulate (I certainly don't expect to finance my retirement with their sale or anything), and I've reverted to other ways to separate myself from my money, but I often still check out the action figures aisle on my way through department stores. Just yesterday, I noticed some odd new packages. In commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of Star Wars, the packages contained reprinted issues of the original Marvel comics... and figures repainted as if from those issues. There was Darth Vader with blue highlights to his armour and distinctive red eyes, Tarkin in a forest-green uniform, a stormtrooper and stormtrooper Han with pale blue brushed across their armour... to be honest, I found myself thinking most of all of bootleg toys. Still, there was something oddly endearing about them too.
