A while back, I noted how "Vulcan" had done well as a write-in candidate for one of the two names for the newest moons found circling Pluto. It seems, though, that the whole "'Vulcan' hasn't traditionally been associated with the cold fringes" thing meant it wasn't officially picked, that honour instead going to the more "associated" Styx. However, Kerberos did wind up being picked for the other name, which reminds me of the subtler "pop culture connection" I made myself...
