The Perhaps Surprising MST3K Collection

krpalmerAlthough I knew the latest DVD collection of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes is starting to ship out to anxious fans (and was waiting for my own set to arrive), I might not have been dwelling to any great extent on the thought "the titles for the next collection usually get announced around now"... until I decided to check "Satellite News" and, altogether without having expected it, I was looking at the titles for the next collection.
Things are pressing on into new and intriguing territory; movies from "major studios" are starting to be included. "Robot Holocaust" pushes one episode closer to having all the first season episodes officially available, and is at least in colour compared to most of the rest of that season. There was some concern in the discussion about "Operation Double 007" being titled "Operation Kid Brother" (even if a certain number of movies in the Mystery Science Theater "canon" have had more than one title applied to them), but a followup comment (considerably after the usual tiresome invocations of George Lucas somehow having to be connected to all changes ever) suggested the official word is that just the DVD cover will have to change. "Kitten With a Whip" both is and isn't "not quite you expect for the series," but "Revenge of the Creature" leads off the eighth season in "genre" fashion. The promise of more Universal movies from the eighth season just might more interesting than the collection itself, but it should still be all right.
