Collections Rolling On

krpalmerJust like clockwork, Shout! Factory keeps announcing upcoming Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD collections just as their latest one is about to come out. This particular announcement (for the twentieth collection) happened to catch my attention because all the episodes in it will be "Joel episodes"; I thought back to one collection from Rhino that had three Joel episodes and a collection of shorts, one that also happened to follow two collections consisting of the first episodes from the "Sci-Fi Channel era" to be released.
There might not be as much significance to this as I might be making of it, of course, but the choice of episodes is sort of interesting. "Project Moonbase" continues the recent trend of taking one episode from the first season, and I would say that the 1950s movie gave a slight impression of its ambitions exceeding its execution. It also happens to be based on a story by Robert A. Heinlein, and I'm sure Heinlein fans would hasten to declare it's not his fault the movie turned out the way it did. At the core of the collection, we get not just one of the "Master Ninja" episodes but both; I did happen to think that I might have commented on the second episode just a little while ago had I not taken on "The Slime People." Rounding things out, we get "The Magic Voyage of Sinbad," or at least the voyage of someone claimed to be Sinbad. It should be an interesting collection, but of course I have to wait for the one before it to arrive first.
