"Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" is very Japanese-nationalistic in a way that might leave a sour taste for some, and it was controversial. (Its version of pre-mutation Godzilla looks more like a conventional dinosaur than "Minus One's".)
But, interestingly, Toho also explored the other side of the coin in the past: one of the "Minus One" director's personal favorite Godzilla movies was "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack", which takes the very unusual position of having Godzilla's enemy monsters be the "good guys" defending modern Japan from Godzilla (the reverse of what usually happens in the monster vs. monster movies)... but, also, states that Godzilla's motivation is supernatural revenge by the spirits of Japan's WWII-era victims.
