A Better Chance Now
Jul. 5th, 2020 09:06 amI threw a comment into my latest “quarterly review” acknowledging some anime series had managed to air their full complement of episodes last season but wondering if they were somehow just a last carry-over of previous production. There have been declarations that animation is more adaptable to “working from home” and protective isolation than live-action visual entertainment, but with all the lamentations that drift through English-language commentary on how strapped for cash the exploited proletariat of anime studios are at the healthiest of times I did feel uncertain about that industry’s ability to adapt.
Just a few days after completing that review, though, I did see a news report on a site I check intermittently about those efforts to adapt. It was more reassuring than “they’ll take what chances their whole country is taking,” and I did reflect a bit on how I have no ability to understand primary sources, steeped instead in “fan” opinions from an assortment of distances with all that that packs into it. While I have to admit I’m still contemplating “waiting until I know all the episodes are available” (at the risk of others dismissing them before I get the chance to form my own opinions), it does seem more possible now that’ll keep happening.
