The American Thanksgiving seems a holiday somehow elusive to me: I suppose that may have something to do with having always already eaten a big turkey dinner the month before for the Canadian Thanksgiving. However, today I managed to feel a bit more connected than usual through the somehow bizarre method of, just days before the latest official DVD collection of Mystery Science Theater 3000 is to ship, seeing the titles to be included in the next set, and remembering how the show has long been linked with Thanksgiving.

There are some interesting titles promised, only half of which I've commented on before. Shout! Factory continues to mine the show's first season, but although "The Crawling Eye" may stand out more or less because of its "historical significance," there may not be anything wrong with that either. "The Beatniks" doesn't quite seem to include actual "beatniks" in it from what I remember, but it should be interesting enough to return to. I do suspect that "The Final Sacrifice" is going to be the standout title for many, and after some comments in the past that it would be unlikely to be officially released it may stand out in more ways than one. "Blood Waters of Dr. Z" manages to open in a "can't look away in horrified fascination" way, and then provides one more solid dose of bleak 1970s filmmaking. All in all, I've got a brand new dose of anticipation to replace the one just about to come to an end.
