My grand scheme to watch all the Star Wars movies but drop the three new movies in between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi continues. Now having finished watching TESB, if without much of an effort to react to the movie as if seeing it for the first time (although I have to admit that for some reason I was wondering about how even the modern blue-screen compositing of the shots looking out the Millennium Falcon's were coming across to me), I suppose I'm contemplating the big time jump right ahead of me.
Once upon a time, to be sure, I was wondering about how I would take watching the original Star Wars right after watching Revenge of the Sith... but even fitting the two of them into one day (along with Attack of the Clones) didn't bother me in the end. One of the first thoughts I had, back when I heard about this "new order," was to think that it would somehow downplay the importance of going to rescue Han Solo... although more lately I've wondered if proceeding through the three new movies would somehow help to recapture part of that feeling in the early 1980s of waiting for a resolution to the cliffhanger. A stranger thought has also occurred to me, though, and that's to wonder if the first real news of Luke and Leia being siblings would be a big shock to some "hypothetical case" for coming at a dramatically dark moment in RotS... I've also considered, though, that Anakin Skywalker being named in the new dialogue on the DVD of TESB will somehow help emphasize just who the young boy about to appear in The Phantom Menace is going to become. I suppose it wouldn't have been that hard to figure out in any case, though.
