I wondered a bit if I hadn't emphasized "many influences" enough before I re-read your comment. While putting these thoughts together, I did imagine ending it with "maybe now I'll try and seek out The Dam Busters," although that might be more one of the "not quite as significant influences," brought up in what seems to me mostly on the darker "this is a suspicious resemblance" side of the comments...
