I don't remember ever having seen any Mr. Magoo cartoons (theatrical or television) myself, although there was a book of newspaper comic strips featuring him in the library when I was young. I suppose that does tie in with my thought about how "recurring characters can be known without actually seeing what they're in." No doubt his cartoons can be found through streaming video these days, but I haven't quite tried that myself...
