All too aware what a froth various people have worked themselves into over the years with their bumper-sticker-level reactions to the Star Wars movies being something of a shifting work, I suppose I'd thought it might be at least "different" were a hypothetical high-definition release to be just the same as the DVDs and not give anyone anything new to complain about. As the Blu-Rays approached and I heard certain visual and audio pecularities of the DVDs were being worked on again, though, that did catch my attention... the only problem being the proverbial other shoe dropping with follow-up news of a few extra additions to the Blu-Rays, particularly with Return of the Jedi. I've stayed away from all but the very outermost fringe of a new storm of reaction, and even that seems a bit too much.

Sleeping on it, though, began to restore some perspective. Once again, I find myself trying to avoid the thought of gut-level reactions, telling myself I can choose to find reasons for why things can only be the way I've known them and make myself miserable for no real reason, or choose to think of why things could be this way too (ultimately letting that "too" lapse) and keep enjoying the movies, and already ideas are forming . I do have the feeling this could seem sort of strange, but it working would, of course, be something positive. Too, I suppose, the reaction at least shows some attachment by others to what I think is important or at least an undeniable part of Return of the Jedi, even if it's just to familiar patterns.

The one problem with bold resolution about Blu-Rays, though, is still that I don't have anything to play them with or watch them on. With the DVDs and with the new movies themselves, I was able to view them at once and form my own opinions, but I'm still not quite compelled to spend lots of money on an HDTV. I suppose it's a dilemma of my own.
