It's been quite a while since I made a (strictly) Mystery Science Theater 3000-related post to this journal, so as I opened up my new and long-hoped-for-by-a-good-few DVD of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie, I wondered about saying something about that. I did, though, wonder about having already posted comments about it, and some fans have already complained that there's nothing but the movie on the DVD (it doesn't even have "scene selection" menus)... and then I happened to notice that the DVD did have subtitles, transcribing both the dialogue of This Island Earth and the "riffing." It is true that the little snippet of the subtitles I checked out didn't quite seem to have straight which one of our heroes was making the comment at any moment, but it called pleasant memories of MSTings to mind all the same. As well, the picture seems the sharpest I've ever seen Mystery Science Theater (including the official DVDs of the TV episodes), and the movie itself remains entertaining to me; I've never wanted to beat myself up over the grueling gauntlet Hollywood processed the series through.
