Star *Warriors?* Maybe not.

I've spent many a time poking around assorted online sites that analyse various SF shows and the like from a "technical" perspective, and it's entertaining enough in moderation. (Carry it too far, and I'm left with the impression that you can lose sight of first the characters and then much of what made things interesting in the first place.) At times, though, I'm worried that the "technical perspective" would look down on the battle scenes in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (not to single them out altogether) for not being as deftly strategised as a computer-chair general might like.

I've formed my escape from this fear, though, and it's to conclude that the Jedi and the Republic were once so effective in the "thousand years" referred to from time to time as to make the opposing forces of the Clone Wars created altogether from scratch and existing forces such as Naboo's more suited for the parade ground than combat. Utopian, given the seedy undertones some embrace in the Star Wars universe? Perhaps. Still, I do occasionally enjoy the thought that everyone in Star Wars is just starting out at the game.

I agree that the galaxy at large had grown unaccustomed to war, although it's possible there were skirmishes among the hick planets far from Coruscant. I think thousands of years of Pax Galactica made everyone kind of complacent, which is why they ignored the seedy underworld filled with bounty hunters, deathstick junkies, slavery, and crime lords. Not to mention completely missing the resurgent Sith.

The decision-makers may have wound up with a "It doesn't bother us" perspective towards the Star Wars underworld and concluded that "small" problems of that sort wouldn't shake the grand galactic system. For that matter, too, the fall of the Republic wasn't quite a matter of barbarians howling in from the outer fringe... although I'm wondering if the Jedi wound up so busy trying to handle existing things spinning out of control (as suggested in the AotC opening crawl) that they couldn't spare time to hunt down the Sith.

(However, at times I connect Palpatine saying that the Republic "has stood for a thousand years" with the comments about the Sith "having been extinct for a millennium" to conclude that the galaxy has only had a thousand years of peace, much less time than the Jedi have been around. Since Yoda is nine hundred years old, I keep imagining him as having some awareness of the days of reconstruction...)

As an off-topic question (one this post wasn't intended just to draw out), where did you get that "Powerpuff"-style icon? That's the first one interpreting Star Wars that I've seen. Of course, my hypersensitivity to the way the characters are interpreted does make me wonder about Anakin's expression in it.

I found this on fandom_puffs, where you can find all of these Powerpuff-esque icons for different fandoms. The drawing was based on Anakin's first reaction to the news Padmé was pregnant ;).

That's a good explanation, and the user has some nice work too. I suppose I was just worried someone had made up an "Anakin's crazy!" icon, and then someone else attached some less extreme text to it. ;)
