I remember the "Rebuild of Evangelion" movies alternated between English-dubbed and Japanese with subtitles when they were shown at my local theatre, so it was interesting to see there'd be one screening of each language for Your Name. They happened to be separated by two weeks, with the subtitled version first.

I have to admit I'm in an ambiguous position where (when I am offered the choice) I'll pick the Japanese track ninety-nine times out of a hundred, but I'm always pleased to see positive opinions of English dubs, supposing that's good for other people. When I joined my university's anime club, there was a fair bit of "dub disdain" in the air, and I wound up clinging to the perhaps too-subtle distinction "I don't dislike dubs, but I don't want to risk coming to dislike them..." As of this moment, though, I'm watching the selection of "Voltron '84" episodes on Netflix, and not always with thoughts of "ah, so that's how the dialogue explains away that moment of gruesomeness in Golion..."
