I put a bit of thought into counting the episodes I watched in the past three months and seeing how many "three-month-long series" they would amount to; it came to over a dozen. That, though, did seem to somehow tie in to the whole "those first descriptions didn't grab me" feeling, although with the season just opening up I'm at last taking interest in (or I'm intent on being hopeful for) a surprising number of upcoming titles.
I guess I've got to admit I don't draw much distinction between "junior high anime characters" and "high school anime characters," so your comment about the Certain Scientific Railgun characters was a bit of a surprise for me. It just might fall into a "some people who poke at this seem to run into trouble, so I won't poke at it" category.
I think I've seen a few "could someone actually drop into Gundam Unicorn without deep preparation?" discussions, which have included a few hopeful "perhaps they could" comments. At the same time, I have to acknowledge how I saw many things in the series with a sense of recognition, including a moment that seemed particularly significant but connected back to a series that was never officially released over here...
Nozomi's prices do seem reasonable to me, reasonable enough anyway that I put in an order for Cat's Eye despite having bought the previous release from another company (if an experimental release on recordable DVDs, not the flimsiest reason I've found for "double dipping"...) We all have different priorities, though. I can suppose I've found it and other series of its vintage to have their own sort of "episodic" feeling, something that can make them feel that bit much longer to get through.
